Energy-intensive companies can once again apply for Supercap support

July 2026 - Energy-intensive companies can once again apply for the so-called Supercap scheme. This support measure reduces a portion of the levies and surcharges on electricity bills and is intended to strengthen the competitive position of Flemish companies. Applications for support in 2026 can be submitted until September 15, 2026.

What is the Supercap scheme?

For companies with high electricity consumption, not only are energy prices themselves a significant cost, but so are the various levies and surcharges added to the electricity bill. These additional costs can be particularly high for companies operating in energy-intensive sectors.

To prevent Flemish companies from suffering a competitive disadvantage compared to companies in neighboring countries as a result, the Flemish government has established the supercap scheme. Under certain conditions, this scheme caps the electricity costs resulting from specific levies and surcharges.

The measure is intended to support the international competitiveness of energy-intensive companies without compromising the energy transition.

Who is eligible?

The supercap is not intended for all businesses. Only companies that meet the criteria set by the Flemish Energy and Climate Agency (VEKA) may submit an application.

Whether a business is eligible depends, among other things, on its electricity consumption and the extent to which energy costs impact its business operations. The exact criteria and calculation method can be found on the VEKA website.

Because the program is tied to various criteria, it is advisable to check well in advance whether your business meets all the requirements.

Submit your application on time

Businesses wishing to take advantage of the Supercap program for 2026 must submit their application no later than September 15, 2026. This is done via the online application form of the Flemish Energy and Climate Agency.

Don’t wait until the last minute. Gathering the necessary data and supporting documents can take some time. Preparing well in advance will help ensure you don’t miss the application deadline.
